Spider Veins &
Broken Capillaries

Visible red, blue, or purple thread veins on the face and body are more common than most people realize — and more treatable than ever. At Oak Skin, we use advanced Aerolase laser technology to eliminate spider veins safely and effectively.

UNDERSTANDING SPIDER VEINS

What causes spider veins broken capillaries?

Spider veins (telangiectasia) are dilated capillaries visible just beneath the skin's surface. They're extremely common — particularly on the face, legs, and nose — and respond exceptionally well to laser treatment.

GENETICS

A family history of spider veins or rosacea significantly increases your likelihood of developing visible capillaries — particularly on the nose, cheeks, and legs.

TEMPURATURE EXTREMES

Repeated exposure to heat — saunas, hot showers, outdoor cold — causes blood vessels to repeatedly dilate and constrict, eventually losing their ability to constrict normally.

SUN EXPOSURE

UV radiation weakens the collagen support around blood vessels and causes vascular dilation — making sun damage a primary cause of facial spider veins.

PROLONGED STANDING

Jobs requiring long periods of standing increase venous pressure in the legs — a primary driver of leg spider veins and varicose veins.

HORMONAL CHANGES

Estrogen weakens vessel walls — explaining why spider veins are more common in women and often worsen during pregnancy, perimenopause, and with hormonal contraception.

ROSACEA

Chronic vascular reactivity in rosacea causes persistent dilation and eventual permanent visibility of facial capillaries — often the most distressing aspect of the condition.

Our naturopathic doctors address the hormonal and nutritional factors that weaken vessel walls — including targeted supplementation with horse chestnut, vitamin C, and bioflavonoids.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Spider Vein FAQ

How many laser sessions will I need?

Dry skin is a skin type — it lacks oil-producing sebaceous glands. Dehydrated skin is a condition — it lacks water and can affect oily, combination, or dry skin types. The treatment approach differs significantly.

Is there downtime after spider vein laser treatment?

Virtually none. Mild redness or warmth may occur for a few hours. Treated vessels fade over 2–6 weeks as the body reabsorbs them — there is no bruising and no compression garment required.

Is the treatment painful?

The Aerolase laser is exceptionally well-tolerated — most clients describe a mild warmth or snapping sensation. No topical numbing cream is typically required.

Will spider veins come back after treatment?

Treated vessels are permanently eliminated. However, new spider veins can form over time — particularly with continued sun exposure or hormonal changes. SPF and maintenance treatments prevent recurrence.
