Acne Scars &
Skin Scarring
Scars are among the most challenging skin concerns to treat — but also among the most rewarding. At Oak Skin, we combine collagen-induction therapy, regenerative treatments, and laser technology to visibly reduce scarring and restore smooth, even skin.
TYPES OF SCARRING
Understanding your scar type
Not all scars are the same — and identifying the type of scarring is essential to choosing the right treatment. Our team assesses each client individually before recommending any protocol.
ATROPHIC (PITTED) SCARS
Ice pick, boxcar, and rolling scars result from collagen loss during the healing process — creating depressions in the skin surface that require collagen induction to fill.
POST-INFLAMMATORY HYPERPIGMENTATION
Dark marks left after acne or skin trauma — not true scars but pigmentation changes that respond well to chemical peels, laser, and brightening protocols.
HYPERTROPHIC SCARS
Raised scars that remain within the boundary of the original wound — caused by excess collagen production during healing. Respond well to laser and microneedling.
STRETCH MARKS (STRIAE)
Caused by rapid skin stretching — during growth, pregnancy, or weight changes — creating atrophic scarring in the dermis that responds to microneedling, PRP and laser.
KELOID SCARS
Overgrown scar tissue that extends beyond the wound boundary — more common in darker skin tones and requiring specialist management.
SURGICAL & TRAUMA SCARS
Post-surgical scars and traumatic injury scars can be significantly improved in texture, colour, and visibility with a targeted treatment plan.
OUR APPROACH
Scar treatment in Burnaby
Scar revision requires patience, precision, and often a combination of treatments. We build individualized protocols based on your scar type, skin tone, and goals.
Resurfacing · Vascular Scars
Targets both the pigmentation and vascular components of scars — reducing redness, breaking down scar tissue, and stimulating skin renewal safely in all skin tones.
Collagen Induction · Deep Remodelling
The gold standard for atrophic acne scars — microneedling triggers the skin's repair cascade, stimulating new collagen to fill depressed scars and improve surface texture.
Resurfacing · Post-Inflammatory Marks
Medical-grade peels accelerate cell turnover and address post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation — improving overall skin tone and reducing the visibility of surface-level scarring.
Regenerative · Accelerated Healing
Combined with microneedling, PRP floods the treated area with growth factors — dramatically accelerating collagen remodelling and improving scar depth and texture.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Scarring FAQ
Can acne scars be completely removed?
Most acne scars can be significantly improved — often by 50–80% with a proper treatment series. Complete removal is rare, but the improvement in texture and appearance is typically dramatic.
Is scar treatment safe for darker skin tones?
Yes — we can treat all skin tones safely. The Aerolase laser is one of the few laser systems safe for darker Fitzpatrick types. We always perform a thorough skin assessment before treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
Yes — the Aerolase Neo Elite is specifically designed for sensitive and reactive skin types. Its ultra-short pulse duration minimizes heat buildup, making it exceptionally gentle and well-tolerated.
When is the best time to start treating acne scars?
Once your active acne is under control — which we can also help with. Treating scars while acne is still active is less effective, as new inflammation can create new scarring.
