Inflammation Repair Questions We Hear Most This Fall
As barrier issues and sensitivity tend to spike this time of year, so does inflammation — and with it, a familiar set of questions. Here are the ones we hear most.
"Is my skin actually inflamed, or just irritated?" The line can be blurry, and it's part of why an in-person assessment matters more than trying to self-diagnose. Irritation tends to be more surface-level and temporary; ongoing inflammation is more persistent and often comes with visible redness that doesn't fully calm down between flare-ups. Either way, the approach starts the same: calm first, figure out the cause second.
"Will more moisturizer fix inflamed skin?" Not necessarily, and sometimes it makes things feel worse if the product itself is part of the problem. Inflammation usually needs a more targeted calming approach — something like LED therapy or a barrier-focused facial — rather than simply layering on more product and hoping it settles.
"How long does it usually take for inflamed skin to calm down?" It varies quite a bit depending on the cause and how long it's been going on, but many patients notice a meaningful difference within a few sessions of consistent, appropriate care. Skin that's been inflamed for a longer stretch, or that has an underlying cause like a skin condition, tends to take a bit longer and benefit from a more comprehensive plan.
"Can I still use my regular skincare while my skin is inflamed?" Often not exactly as-is. Active ingredients, exfoliants, and even some routine products can aggravate inflamed skin further. Simplifying temporarily, under guidance from your practitioner, tends to get better results than trying to push through with your usual routine.
"When should I actually come in, versus just waiting it out?" If redness or reactivity has lasted more than a couple of weeks, or keeps coming back despite a gentler routine, that's a good sign it's worth an actual skin consultation rather than continuing to wait it out at home.

Inflammation is common this time of year, and it responds well to the right kind of attention — the key is matching the approach to what's actually going on, rather than guessing.
