Oak Skin, located in Burnaby, BC, is led and founded by Dr. Andrea Gansner, a naturopathic doctor at the forefront of medical aesthetic treatments. With years of experience with skin technology, dermal fillers, and neuromodulators, her focus on natural results is coupled with precise application and cutting-edge techniques. In developing individualized treatment plans, she brings empathy and care to her patient interactions by providing space for her patients to feel heard.
What’s your beauty philosophy?
I don’t believe in anti-aging. It has a negative connotation for something that is actually a privilege and a natural process! I err on the side of a conservative and natural approach to neuromodulators and dermal fillers. I work towards preventative and subtle “tweakments” with my approach.
I like to focus on targeting a refreshed skin tone, smooth skin texture, and healthy appearance of the skin so I can help my patients bring out their best.
How long have you been working with skin and injectables?
I have been working with skin for ten years, and injectables for nine years.
What’s your favourite skin treatment and why?
Microneedling! It helps improve the appearance and texture of your skin in the most natural & effective way, and the downtime is minimal. Very thin needles puncture the skin—these wounds are minuscule and only skin-deep. Your body responds by sending in healing factors that boost the skin’s radiance and health.
I work with the SkinPen system from Bellus Medical. It is the first-ever medical facial needling device approved by the FDA and Health Canada. It causes controlled micro-injuries that stimulate your body’s natural wound-healing process while minimizing cellular damage.
What’s your educational background?
I have an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of British Columbia (2009) and am a graduate of the Naturopathic Medical Program at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine (2014). I regularly update my skills and train in skin technology and injectables. Skin technology and rejuvenation treatments are an area I’ve spent a decade immersing myself in.
As a naturopathic physician, I look at things holistically, taking in the whole story and believe in developing holistic plans customized to each and every patient. I’m committed to helping people look and feel their best! My advanced approach combines passion, skill, expertise and technology.
